Recognizing the distinct challenges facing chiefs early in their tenure, we consulted with a group of current and former chiefs to focus on the critical first few months of a chief’s tenure, which is undoubtedly an exciting—but incredibly demanding—time.

These ten commitments are actions state chiefs can take to create a more equitable education system in their state. It is not feasible or realistic for any SEA to implement all ten of these commitments at once.

This leadership playbook outlines and describes a model of inspirational leadership for chiefs.

You can use the Inspirational Leadership Self-Assessment regardless of tenure and at any point in time. It does not measure your competency, but rather is meant to identify speci c leadership behaviors that can be areas of focus for development.
