2019 Teacher of the Year:
Kerra Samuel
Kerra Samuel was born on January 14, 1977, on the captivating island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. She has an identical twin sister and has three older brothers. Samuel is the proud mother of three exceptional and loving boys, Josime, Jaidyn and Aadyn. Samuel started her education at the Ricardo Richards Elementary School and then the Elena Christian Junior High School. She went on to Central High and graduated in June of 1994. Samuel attended the University of the Virgin Islands (St. Croix Campus) and obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, she pursued a teaching career at the Pearl B. Larsen School in 1999 as a fifth-grade teacher. The second year at Pearl B., she joined the sixth grade team as a strong and motivating teacher. Working with children is something she has always enjoyed, as her mother was an educator as well. As time progressed, Samuel continued her studies at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, where she obtained a Masters’ of Science Degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Technology and became the computer teacher at the school.
Undoubtedly, teaching is a very rewarding profession that only a select few special individuals can do! Samuel has proven that she can make a difference in the lives of all with whom she meets. Samuel is always willing to assist students, staff, and parents without any expectation in return and her vivacious personality is truly one that can’t be overlooked.
