2020 Teacher of the Year:
Edney Apulu
Edney Gamig Apulu is the eldest son of Fesola'i Apulu Lafaele and Ruth Solaita Apulu of the Ituau Malosi, Nu'uuli, Pago Pago, American Samoa. He is a proud, committed and dedicated Adventist who attends Leone Seventh-day Adventist Church. He serves as a deacon and a pathfinder instructor. He also served as assistant pathfinder director for the past two years. He is a 2004 graduate of Tafuna High School and has been teaching at Tafuna High School since April 2011. Tafuna High School educates about 1,200 students from the midwest region and a few from other regions amongst the island. Apulu earned his associates in liberal arts from American Samoa Community College, bachelor’s of science degree in social science and a bachelor’s of science degree in history from Union College in Lincoln, NE. He also holds a master’s of education degree in curriculum studies from the University of Hawaii-Manoa. He currently serves as the department head for social studies, chairs the National Honor Society Lumana’i Chapter, history club, Close-Up and Junior Statesman of America (JSA) advisor. He is an American Samoa High School Athletics Association (ASHSAA) official with the Athletics division during after-hours. He dedicates this honor to his school the Warrior Nation, colleagues, students, his parents and most importantly his two sons ELI and Zebadiah for inspiring him to do the best in all he does and will continue to do. Apulu expresses heartfelt gratitude of thanksgiving to the man above for blessing him with such an honor. He aspires to represent his island home with pride and dignity.
