Washington, D.C. (September 26, 2018) –– With today’s approval of Florida’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) consolidated state plan, all state ESSA plans have been approved. Now, all states can continue the important work of implementing those plans aligned with their state visions to provide a high-quality education for all children. Passed in 2015, ESSA gives states the opportunity as well as the flexibility and authority to develop federal plans aligned with their state visions to create more equitable education systems for all students.
Carissa Moffat Miller, Executive Director of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), released the following statement:
“We are pleased all state ESSA plans have now been approved, and educators at the school, district and state levels can turn to the important work of implementation. This is a huge step for our country and our continued commitment to ensuring all students have equitable access to the high-quality education they deserve.
This is far from the starting point, as states have been tirelessly working with stakeholders in their communities to create more robust accountability systems, advance policies to improve schools for all students, increase access to effective teachers, and more.
As states implement practices and policies from their ESSA plans, it is critical that they build on the work they’ve done and remain focused on their state’s overall vision to provide a high-quality, equitable education. We look forward to continuing to work with states as they improve outcomes for all students, and sharing these successes across states.”
