Four years after the passage of ESSA, 10 education groups urged support for America’s schools as states continue rollout efforts to improve them.

December 10, 2019 marks the fourth anniversary of the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) joined nine national education organizations to reaffirm our commitment to the law.

In a letter to education leaders on Capitol Hill, the groups spell out ways in which they are encouraged by the opportunity continued ESSA implementation presents, and their dedication to build on that foundation in coming years to improve America’s schools.

In addition to CCSSO, the groups signing the letter include: AASA, The School Superintendents Association; American Federation of Teachers; National Association of Elementary School Principals; National Association of Secondary School Principals; National Association of State Boards of Education; National Conference of State Legislatures; National Education Association; National Governors Association; National Parent Teacher Association; and National School Boards Association.

The letter was sent to Lamar Alexander, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions; Patty Murray, Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions; Bobby Scott, Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor; and Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and Labor.
