CCSSO welcomes additional new board members
Washington, D.C. –– The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) today announced its 2024-25 Board of Directors, along with the new terms of the officers and directors, following elections at the 2024 Annual Policy Forum in Phoenix, AZ.
Alabama Superintendent Eric Mackey will assume the presidency and Washington Superintendent Chris Reykdal will assume the role of president-elect. CCSSO members re-elected Wisconsin Superintendent Jill Underly to continue serving on the Board and elected the following chiefs to new terms: Connecticut Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker, Indiana Secretary Katie Jenner, Virginia Superintendent Lisa Coons and Illinois Superintendent Tony Sanders.
“I am deeply honored to be chosen as president-elect of CCSSO’s Board of Directors,” said Alabama Superintendent Eric Mackey. “This is a pivotal time in education, and I am eager to work alongside my colleagues to ensure every student has access to a high-quality education. Together, we will focus on addressing academic recovery, supporting educators, and modernizing our education systems to meet the needs of today’s learners. My motto in Alabama is Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day. I look to extend that philosophy to this important work that serves America’s students.”
Re-elected and newly elected Board members will assume office at the conclusion of the Annual Policy Forum and join current Board members continuing to serve their terms: Rhode Island Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and Georgia Superintendent Richard Woods.

I know their experiences and knowledge will continue to move our mission forward.”
CCSSO’s Board of Directors manages the overall business affairs of the Council and is the governing body of the organization. The Board is composed of the president, the president-elect, the past president and six directors elected by the CCSSO membership. CCSSO’s Board of Directors for the upcoming year is:

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
