Washington, D.C., Dec. 5, 2023 – The Council of Chief State School Officers’ (CCSSO) Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller released the following statement on OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment’s (PISA) 2022 results examining what students know in reading, mathematics and science – including an assessment administered to 4,600 15-year-old U.S. students:
“The latest PISA data underscores the importance of states’ continued focus on strategies to drive academic recovery from the effects of the pandemic. While U.S. students held steady in reading and science, the math results demonstrate the continued need for states’ efforts to double down on providing math support. State chiefs remain committed to closing all learning gaps. Our recent report outlines states’ ongoing progress to provide targeted supports around instruction and acceleration in math, and the sustained work needed to accelerate progress.”
