Washington, D.C. (August 4, 2022) – The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) today applauded educators and school leaders as new research showed fewer students are behind grade level following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Center for Education Statistics today released the latest update to its Pulse Panel Survey, which found a substantial drop in the percent of students that schools say are behind academically, from the start of the 2021-22 school year to the end.
“These outcomes are a credit to the hard work undertaken by educators, states, school leaders, parents and community partners to meet the needs of students,” said CCSSO Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller. “We are pleased to see this progress and applaud all those working tirelessly to address unfinished learning and meet the other critical needs of students in our communities today.”
CCSSO is proud to support states in their efforts to ensure an equitable educational recovery for all students, including in their investments of federal COVID-19 relief.
