Washington, D.C. (June 15, 2022) – The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced Missouri Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education Margie Vandeven will join its Board of Directors.

CCSSO Board President Molly Spearman has appointed Vandeven to fill the seat vacated by Guam Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez.

“It is an honor to join the CCSSO Board of Directors during this transformational time in education,” Vandeven said. “Across the country, educators are taking lessons learned from the pandemic and reimagining teaching and learning to better serve our students and families. These are often big, difficult conversations, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that we emerge from the pandemic stronger, more agile and better prepared. I can’t think of a better time to connect more with state leaders from across the nation and offer further insight from the Show-Me State.”

“Commissioner Vandeven is a trusted voice and a leader among state chiefs,” said CCSSO Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller. “She is committed to working with educators, families and communities to provide an equitable educational opportunity for all students. I look forward to having her experience and expertise on the Board of Directors.”

CCSSO’s Board of Directors manages the overall business affairs of the Council and is the governing body of the organization. The Board is composed of the president, the president-elect, the past president and six directors elected by members of the CCSSO membership.
