Washington, D.C. (February 7, 2020) – Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Executive Director Carissa Moffat Miller released the following statement about West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Steven Paine’s departure.
“Superintendent Paine has dedicated his long career to improving education for children across the state of West Virginia, focusing on issues like child nutrition, early learning and accountability. We appreciate his service to the wider education community, including serving as CCSSO’s president in 2010. We wish Steve and his family the best, and we look forward to working with West Virginia’s new state superintendent to carry on this important work.”

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions.
