Washington, D.C. (January 8, 2020) – Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Executive Director Carissa Moffat Miller released the following statement about Louisiana Superintendent of Education John White’s departure.
“Superintendent White has put equity at the center of his long career in education. As the longest-serving current state chief, John has been a valuable colleague to me and to state education leaders and a staunch advocate on the national level for a strong public education for all students. He has put student needs first, uniting the state’s early childhood education system, modernizing teacher preparation, and expanding career and technical education. White has done nation-leading work on innovative assessments, and school accountability and improvement, under the Every Student Succeeds Act. We wish him the best in his next steps.”

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions.
