CCSSO Seeks Applicants for New Executive Director

Washington, D.C. (January 17, 2018) – The Board of Directors for the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) today announced it is seeking applicants for its next executive director. The Board posted a job description for the position on the organization’s website at www.ccsso.org/careers/current-openings.  

After nearly five years as executive director, Chris Minnich announced in October that he was stepping down. His last day at CCSSO was January 12. Carissa Miller is currently serving as CCSSO’s interim executive director. 

CCSSO's Board, which manages the overall business affairs of the Council and is the governing body of the organization, states in the job description that it seeks a mission-driven leader committed to educational equity and one possessing an unwavering belief that every child can succeed. The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
