By the Maryland State Department of Education Division of Early Childhood Development
In July 2018, the Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Early Childhood launched a new family engagement community hub website, marylandfamiliesengage.org. Through funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, marylandfamiliesengage.org serves as a “one-stop shop” for parents, families, providers, teachers, and other stakeholders to build a network of community support and share best practices.
Marylandfamiliesengage.org is powered by a database of resources with links to partnerships, activities, research, and more. The early learning community can share their childhood development expertise by submitting original articles, resources or events to be posted on the website.
The new website is a supplement to Maryland’s Early Childhood Family Engagement Framework and Toolkit, which outline goals and strategies that support the state’s family engagement initiatives. The goal is to recognize family engagement as a core component of early care and education.
Given the importance of family engagement in promoting positive outcomes for children, it is imperative that Maryland’s early learning community works not only to promote family engagement in early care and education settings, but also to improve a child’s home environment when necessary.
This commitment extends to developing innovative strategies that support families by providing opportunities for parents to develop parenting skills, build peer networks, learn about child development, and become more socially and financially self-sufficient.
