Washington, D.C. (March 1, 2021) – Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller released the following statement on the confirmation of Miguel Cardona as U.S. Secretary of Education.
“We offer our congratulations to Miguel Cardona on his confirmation as U.S. Secretary of Education, and our thanks to members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and the full U.S. Senate for their quick approval of his nomination.
State education leaders stand ready to work with Secretary Cardona in the important work of addressing the educational disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a former state chief, district leader, and classroom teacher dedicated to improving outcomes for historically marginalized student populations, Secretary Cardona has the experience to understand how the federal government can best help states and schools recover from this pandemic, and the background to ensure that recovery is equitable for all students.”
