Washington, D.C. (April 17, 2018) – Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Executive Director Carissa Moffat Miller released the following statement after Kentucky Commissioner Stephen Pruitt announced his resignation Tuesday.

“Stephen Pruitt has been a dedicated, authentic leader for the students of Kentucky. During his time as state chief, he has remained focused on doing what is best for children, from closing the achievement gap and increasing career pathways to rethinking how to deliver assessments. When a tragic shooting took place at Marshall County High School earlier this year, Commissioner Pruitt drove to Benton and worked alongside community members to help those students and families affected by the shooting. That’s the kind of leader he is.”
