CCSSO Joins More Than 450 CEOs in Commitment to Advance Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace

Washington, D.C. ––The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) today joins CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, a growing coalition of more than 450 CEOs that have come together and pledged to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

By signing the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion™ pledge, CCSSO has committed to build on its goal to create a strategic and healthy organization that reflects a set of core values that enables us to advance equity for all kids. This includes cultivating a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected and where employees feel encouraged to discuss diversity and inclusion.

“By joining CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion, we underscore CCSSO’s commitment to putting diversity, equity and inclusion front and center in everything we do – both in our internal operations and in how we prioritize our work with states. Before we can deliver on the promise of an equitable education system for all children, I believe we must start from within to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment at CCSSO,” said CCSSO Executive Director Carissa Moffat Miller. “I’m pleased to be joining forces with such a large and respected network of companies and CEOs; together, we can have a positive impact on workplaces across the country.”

CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ is cultivating a new type of ecosystem centered around collaboration and sharing. The actions, available via, showcase real-life examples of the open and transparent conversations to cultivate more diverse and inclusive workplace environments. The addition of new signatories expands the impact of this work beyond the office to communities and industries.

Under the pledge, CCSSO has committed to:

  • Continue to make our workplace a trusting place to have complex, and sometimes difficult, conversations about diversity and inclusion,
  • Implement and expand unconscious bias education, and
  • Share best practices, as well as those that are unsuccessful.
