Washington, D.C. (May 15, 2020) – The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) released the following statement about the House passage of the HEROES Act today.
“House passage of the HEROES Act today is an acknowledgement from congressional leaders that they understand the fiscal challenges facing state and local leaders,” said CCSSO Executive Director Carissa Moffat Miller. “Schools across the country are facing new costs as they work to keep students and educators safe and healthy, and chiefs appreciate the proposed investment in education. We will work closely with the Senate and Administration to advance an emergency spending package.”

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions.
