The U.S Department of Education's Office of Safe and Healthy Students Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Technical Assistance Center (REMS-TAC) provides instructions for schools and districts to use to create a Threat Assessment Team (TAT). A TAT, a group of internal personnel and external professionals (medical and mental health providers, law enforcement, and school resource officers), is convened to monitor and review concerning behavior.

REMS-TAC describes the value TATs provide and offers links to available federal resources.
