Washington, D.C. (July 23, 2018) – The following is a statement from Carissa Moffat Miller, Executive Director of the Council of Chief State School Officers, on the Senate passing a bill to reauthorize the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act:

“State chiefs are committed to increasing the number of students across the country who are prepared for success in both college and a career, and the Perkins Act provides critical federal resources to complement states’ efforts as they implement new approaches that ensure students can be successful in the workforce after high school, college and beyond. We look forward to working with the House and Senate to pass a final version of this law, and to working with the federal government to implement it in such a way that supports the work states are already doing to ensure every child — particularly those from low-income communities, students of color, English learners and students with disabilities — has access to a high-quality education that provides pathways into college and a career.”
