CCSSO Releases Statement on Guam Chief

Washington, D.C. (May 5, 2022) – Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller released the following statement on the retirement of Guam Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez.

“Jon Fernandez is a strong leader who is dedicated to the students of Guam and throughout the United States. At the national level, he is the longest-serving current state chief and has always provided an important voice on how we can create a more equitable education system for all students. I wish Jon the best on his next chapter and appreciate his contributions to strengthening public education as a chief and as a member of CCSSO’s Board of Directors.”


The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
