Alignment Content Analysis of NAEP 2009 Science Assessment with the methodology of Surveys of Enacted Curriculum

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) conducted an alignment content analysis of the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress Reading and Science Assessments administered in 2009 for students at grades 4 and 8. The analysis was conducted using the methodology of the Surveys of Enacted Curriculum (SEC). The study of NAEP Reading and Science Assessments was supported by the National Center for Education Statistics through the Assessment Division. This report on the findings of the analysis was prepared by staff of the Council of Chief State School Officers, led by the project director Rolf K. Blank.

Alignment Content Analysis of TIMSS and PISA Mathematics and Science Assessments Using the Surveys of Enacted Curriculum Methodology

Through the SEC Collaborative, CCSSO conducted an alignment content analysis of the 2007 TIMSS Mathematics and Science education assessments for students at grades 4 and 8 and the 2006 PISA Mathematics and Science Literacy assessments for students at age 15 (i.e., TIMSS--Trends in Mathematics and Science Study, PISA--Program for International Student Assessment).

 

Closing the Gap in Science Achievement: Using NAEP Science Assessment Scores to Analyze State Trends

Since the 1990s, CCSSO has analyzed and reported state-level National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) trends using the student scores by state from one year’s assessment and comparing the scores from a prior point (or points) in time.

 

State Indicators of Science and Mathematics Education 2007

The present report on state indicators of science and math education for 2007 is the latest in a series of biennial reports on state and national indicators that were initiated in 1991. The reports are intended for use by policymakers, educators, and researchers.

 

Closing the Gap in Reading and Math: NAEP Trends Show Significant Positive Effects for Almost Half the States

CCSSO has analyzed the state-level NAEP trends (available from the U.S. Department of Education online through the NAEP Report Card, A valid and useful method of applying state-level student achievement scores from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is to measure the trend for a state—i.e. extent of change from one year’s state NAEP results to the results several years later.
