Washington, D.C. (December 2, 2015) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday voted 359-64 to approve the Every Student Succeeds Act, a bipartisan bill to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

Chris Minnich, the executive director of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), released the following statement after the vote in the U.S. House of Representatives:

"Today, state education leaders are thrilled to see such bipartisan action in the U.S. House of Representatives to support a stable federal education policy in our schools across the country. The Every Student Succeeds Act will provide states with additional flexibility to improve achievement for all kids while at the same time making sure we maintain strong accountability systems."

The Every Student Succeeds Act is closely aligned with the Key Priorities for ESEA Reauthorization that CCSSO published in January 2015.

The legislation will now head to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
