On October 25 the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) announced they would consolidate to form the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), a new unified educator accrediting body.

Today, CCSSO released the following statement in support of CAEP: "CCSSO applauds NCATE and TEAC for the bold move to create a new unified organization," said CCSSO Executive Director Gene Wilhoit. "States are working on a variety of ways to develop and support a world-class workforce of teachers, prepared to help all students succeed. Having one set of professional preparation standards will be a critical resource in this endeavor."

CCSSO has organized a State Consortium on Educator Effectiveness (SCEE) for states to collaborate around three priority topics: standards for learning, teaching, and leading; professional growth and support for teaching and leading; and evaluating teaching and leading. Additionally, CCSSO recently solicited public feedback on new draft Model Core Teaching Standards that outline what all teachers should know and be able to do to help all students reach the goal of being college and career ready in today's world.
