CCSSO Concludes a Successful 2010 Summer Institute

The 2010 Summer Institute was focused on building comprehensive state systems of educator support, development, and effectiveness. The institute began with a full day collaborative meeting between chief state school officers and state higher education executive officers (SHEEOs), focused on building stronger relationships between K-12 and higher education. Chiefs and SHEEOs also engaged in a working session with federal education leaders, including U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, to further strengthen the state and federal partnership.

Chiefs and deputies, together with CCSSO corporate partners and experts in the education workforce field to discuss systemic change in teacher evaluation, encouragement, and leadership. CCSSO also released for public comment Model Core Teaching Standards: A Resource for State Dialogue (Draft for Public Comment). The release of the standards signals the beginning of the public comment period which will run until October 15, 2010, during which time CCSSO seeks broad input from the education community and the public at large.
