States Submit Teacher Equity Plans This Week
All states are submitting their teacher equity plans to the U.S. Department of Education on June 1. The submitted plans will be posted publicly on the U.S. Department of Education's website.
As background, the teacher equity plans are part of the Department's Excellent Educators for All initiative, which is designed to move America toward the day when every student in every public school is taught by excellent educators. More specifically, each plan should ensure "poor and minority children are not taught at higher rates than other children by inexperienced, unqualified, or out-of-field teachers." CCSSO has been working closely with states since November as they develop these plans. Each state has developed its own plan based on input from stakeholders, including educators and advocacy groups, as well as an analysis of state and local data identifying where poor and minority students are less likely to have excellent teachers.
