DQC Releases Report on Student Data Privacy Legislation

On September 26th, the Data Quality Campaign (DQC) released its "Student Data Privacy Legislation: A Summary of 2016 State Legislation" which outlines legislative activity in states around student data privacy. DQC found that the major actions taken by legisatures were around three major themes: 1) govern the data use and privacy activities of online school service providers, 2) establish greater transparency around how states and districts are managing student information and 3) grant new responsiblities for safeguarding data to districts. According to the report, there were 112 bills introcuded in 34 states and 18 new student data privacy laws passed by 15 states.
