New York Education Commissioner John King has stated that the implementation of the Common Core learning standards will continue to move forward. King believes there are several things that spark concern, including misinformation regarding the standards, questions about funding, implementation costs, and fears that the standards support a "one-size-fits-all" model of education. King noted that there was similar backlash in Massachusetts when the state changed its standards in the 1990s, and noted that there was an "unevenness" in the adoption of the standards that led to different experiences in districts across the state. King stressed that New York educators support the new standards, and that what he has seen in schools where the standards are being taught is positive. He said, "The task for the state is to use every moment of instruction" to help students understand the new Common Core standards.
